The challenge
Freight brokers running mixed fleets had no live view of location, fuel, or engine health, so utilization and load-matching ran on phone calls. Trukkr needed hardware-grade telemetry and a backend that could place and track loads in real time.
What we built
The full pipeline, end to end — not a blurb.
- 01Hardware
An OBD-II telematics dongle — STM32, GNSS, and a cellular modem reading the vehicle CAN bus.
- 02Firmware
OBD/CAN decoding, trip detection, and store-and-forward through cellular gaps.
- 03Backend
A Go ingest path over MQTT, a geospatial matching service, and a Kafka event bus.
- 04Product
A dispatcher dashboard and driver app with live tracking.
- 05Operations
Kubernetes with autoscaling and Grafana observability.
Results
340 ms
p95 load-assignment time across the active fleet
22%
higher truck utilization after live matching
99.9%
dongle uptime over a six-month field window
18%
drop in reported fuel pilferage from anomaly alerts
Now the operational backbone for dispatch across the network.
